AN UPHILL TASK

The Spanish club Barcelona face an uphill task in their efforts to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, as they have suffered a shock 2-0 defeat in the first leg against the Italian club AC Milan. This has left Milan with the requirement of even a drab 0-0 draw to go through into the quarter-final stage of the competition.

Barcelona have been one of the most successful clubs in this competition over the last few years, as they have lifted the trophy two times. Even though they are currently top of the Spanish league by a massive 13 points, they are on the verge of being knocked out of the European competition.

However, the midfielder Andres Iniesta has said that he is confident that the Spanish club will be able to see the progression to the next round in the second leg that will take place at the Camp Nou. Iniesta has requested for some respect from the media for the achievements this season.

Barcelona have recently suffered three defeats in the last four matches, which has led to Unibet Tipping making AC Milan the favourites to go through online. Even though it is unlikely to affect their position in the league, they have been knocked out of the Copa del Rey during this period. Milan come into the encounter on the back of an unbeaten run, which now stretches to 15 matches .

“I would put my hand in the fire for the team, I am confident that we can do it. It was not a good result, but I am 100 per cent convinced that we can turn it around. We have to do well and go out as though it’s a final. For us it’s a final where we need to get a good result to come out alive. We deserve more respect. What’s more in La Liga, we are in an unbeatable position. I wish it was always this way,” said Iniesta.
